Spanning two floors of the occupied East Tower hospital building, the new home for the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department offers patient-centered care in contemporary patient rooms (17 M/S beds) and nurturing therapeutic spaces. Soothing color, resilient surfaces, and natural light combine to support patient return to active living.
The therapy floor features a 10,000 square foot Free Exercise Gallery offering focused treatment in five separate modalities and a loft-inspired Active Daily Living suite. The nursing floor features domestic detailing in 16 patient rooms and the addition of needed flex space for dining, recreation, and family counseling. Even the corridors offer comfort in repetitive patterns and forgiving materials. Patients and staff find visual cues in strategically placed signage, plants and art evocative of the Sacramento River delta. The project’s new location required integration of functioning medical services to adjacent floors and coordination with the campus master plan.
