This major expansion for a regional medical center added a new radiology wing, and a state-of-the-art 24hr Emergency Room and a comprehensive refurbishment of existing suites. This was accomplished while the existing hospital and ER remained fully functional.
Work was divided into three phases: site preparation (including temporary parking), new construction, and renovation of the existing hospital. Nearly twenty distinct sub-phases were used to ensure continued, uninterrupted operations in the licensed hospital facilities.
We developed an overall circulation plan at the outset and focused on the long-term operation and efficiency of the finished layout. While horizontal additions to hospitals often generate circulation problems, this project provided a highly efficient internal work flow and improved the overall circulation of the entire facility. The overall site circulation was also improved with the addition of new ER facilities. Clearly marked and separated public and ambulance entries segregate circulation of both vehicles and personnel, making sure things go as smoothly as possible in times of crisis.
