At 1.4 million square feet, the West End Office Complex is the largest office project ever undertaken by the State of California. This is our third large-scale design/build office project with the State and so we bring a good deal of valuable experience.
We started the planning process with a series of interactive public workshops to help establish goals and parameters for the project. With a broad public outreach program and imaginative participatory exercises, we were able to establish strong public support for a project that will provide unique community attributes to the downtown area. Features such as 45,000 square feet of retail shops and restaurants, a generous public plaza and potential opportunity sites for mixed-use and housing projects were strongly applauded by community members.
We are developing comprehensive performance criteria to ensure the finished design/build project is innovative, resource-efficient and a good long-term value to the State. The project will achieve a USGBC LEED^® rating of Silver or better and will perform at least 25% more efficiently than the State’s rigorous Title 24 energy standards.
