At the core of his being, Jason is best described as an inventor. As the Design Principal at Dreyfuss + Blackford, he continues to push the boundaries of traditional architecture. Fascinated by both phenomenology and the mechanics of materials, Jason’s work is predominantly performance driven, advanced by technologies in design and fabrication. Breaking down complacent norms, he continues to ask “what can be done to make ______ better?” During his 17 years at the firm, Jason has stayed ahead of the curve with innovation and experimentation. Examples include his creative effort on the louvered facade of the UC Davis Health Parking Structure III and the flexible corrugated wall system for The Shop at VSP Global.
Both a builder and an artist with public art commissions, Jason brings design and architecture into the public realm. He is a frequent contributor to the larger design and innovation dialog happening in the area. His work as Creative Director for TEDxSacramento and his experimental architecture pavilions for the LAUNCH and TBD Festivals have been testing grounds for his design work. This work interacts with tens of thousands of people in the area and is another vehicle for Jason to share his talent.
“I spend a lot of timing thinking about thinking. Experience is relative to the extrinsic environment and I can only design better solutions if I can truly understand the ‘why’.”
