Our History

Dreyfuss + Blackford’s legacy of design excellence has shaped the built environment of Northern California for decades, delivering impactful, enduring architecture that reflects the region’s evolving needs and character.

1950 – Al and Len start Dreyfuss+Blackford

1952 – D+B selected to design the headquarters for the newly established Sacramento Municipal Utility District Headquarters.

1959 – The Vogel Chevrolet Showroom was a refined, modernist pavilion of glass and steel, recognized with an AIA Central Valley Merit Award.

1963 – IBM Office Building – D+B designs one of the first precast concrete structures on the west coast.

1964 to 1981 – D+B teams with John Warnecke to design the San Francisco International Airport.

1987 – CalPERS Headquarters Lincoln Plaza North

2011 – California ISO Headquarters and Operations Center

2014 – D+B was commissioned to to renovate and rehabilitate the entire Sacramento Municipal Utility District Headquarters facility.

2021 – D+B designs the Santa Clara County Animal Services Center, garnering national acclaim for redefining shelter design through animal and community engagement.

2021 – D+B completes the Museum of Science and Curiosity, an epicenter for STEM education and a cultural landmark

2024 – Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture collaborates with ZGF on the State’s largest office complex to-date.
