We were invited to a limited competition for a significant downtown site in Sacramento. 700i presents a dynamic vision for Sacramento and its emerging urban core. The lively business community and economic potential of the city is reflected in the concepts, forms, materials and execution of 700i.

Complementing the urban context and creating a distinctive profile for the skyline, 700i is a podium-tower composition located on a half-block site on I Street, immediately south of the County complex.

The tower’s design suggests two volumes intertwined as if in a dance. One gently leaning in to the other, the pair turn about the podium in elegant embrace. Clad in a transparent filigree of glass, the forms extend through the podium to the ground to define and enliven the entry and plaza.

The podium is a counterpoint, scaled down to meet the pedestrian with corner restaurant and retail to provide life at street level. A proposed substation at the opposite corner gives the Sacramento Police Department a presence in the Central Business District and an approachable identity for the department. The generous public plaza provides large pubic art for people to enjoy.
