The County of San Mateo wanted to offer their employees state-of-the-art and efficient workplace environments. Dreyfuss + Blackford was contracted by the County to provide detailed options for the optimum future development of the core Government Center location in Redwood City. These efforts included analysis and surveys of multiple existing department space requirements throughout the County; understanding best space service-line relationships/adjacencies; and the possible reuse and renovation of select existing buildings versus new office construction.

This exercise concluded with the master plan documentation of new build and renovation options (replacing leased space), phasing, and high level cost estimating. Additionally, a parking study and recommendation for sizing of new structured parking.

Departmental functions included government assembly spaces (Board of Supervisors chamber), County Health Services and traditional office spaces to flex between multiple departmental uses. During this process we facilitated multiple core team and project stakeholder meetings, and introduced best practice examples of workplace solutions.
